Three things comic books can teach you about copywriting.

I’ve always enjoyed a good comic book. And why wouldn’t I? They’re a wonderful form of storytelling that perfectly combines language and imagery.

As I’ve gained more experience as a copywriter, I realized that some of the most important lessons I came across were lessons I’ve already learned from reading comic books. Here are just three of them:

Keep the dialogue short, crisp and to the point. There’s not a lot of room for dialogue in comic books, so words have to be chosen very carefully.

Imagery and colors are important. They pull your attention and set the tone.

Focus on the struggles of the main character (the audience). The most popular comic book characters have tragedy and struggle in their lives, AKA pain points. By focusing on and addressing these struggles, you connect with the audience on an emotional level that helps them relate to you more strongly.

Until next time, may the Force be with you…
