Any time I start working with a new client, I always schedule an introduction interview so I can get a better understanding for what they do, how they do it and, of course, why they do it. While this information is critical to writing copy for them, there’s one other question that’s much more important to understanding them and what they need from me.
“What happened in your life that made you decide you needed to hire a copywriter?”
This simple question is designed to help me understand their personal customer journey – the challenges and pains they’re experiencing and how my services can help alleviate them.
By knowing what motivates them, I can write copy that addresses their unique pain points and offers solutions to resolve them.
